At Cynaglow, we are selective in the products we offer. That's because we are strong advocates of clean beauty and ingredients that are good for your skin, body, and the environment. Each and every skincare, haircare, and bodycare product we promote contains safe, non-toxic ingredients. These ingredients are often organic, vegan, cruelty-free, and derived from sustainable sources.
Toxic Ingredients We Avoid
Parabens are present in cosmetic products like makeup, facial cleansers, and shampoo because they prevent bacteria, mold, and yeast growth. Their downfall, however, is that they’ve been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. In addition, parabens may hinder fertility and reproductive organs. Parabens may appear on labels as methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, and butylparaben.
Phthalates are intended to help ingredients in products like moisturizers that penetrate the skin. They may also extend the shelf life of fragrances such as perfumes and colognes. Unfortunately, phthalates are incredibly toxic and have been proven to damage reproduction in both males and females.
Toluene is commonly found in hair dyes and nail polish, toluene is a chemical that may be toxic to the immune system and lead to birth defects. It’s particularly dangerous for pregnant women and those with compromised immunity.
Carbon black is a dark black powder that’s often used in eyeliners, mascaras, and lipsticks as it gives them coloring. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has discovered that there’s a link between carbon black and cancer.
Often used to moisten and smooth moisturizers, deodorants, and similar products, siloxanes may wreak havoc on the reproductive system and have a negative effect on fertility. They may alter hormone compositions and increase the risk of uterine tumors.
Allergens We Avoid
Formaldehyde is typically found in nail polish and hair smoothing products and may cause allergic reactions and irritations to the eyes and respiratory systems. According to the American Cancer Society, formaldehyde has been correlated to occupational cancers such as nasal and nasopharyngeal.
Although brands aren’t required to reveal synthetic fragrances on their ingredient lists, they are widely seen in many beauty products. This is unfortunate as synthetic fragrances are considered allergens, irritants, and hormone disruptors. Long term exposure to them may result in increased immunotoxicity and allergic reactions.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate
A variety of personal care products including skincare, cosmetics, shampoo, and acne treatments contain sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. These ingredients may trigger allergies and irritate the skin. Also, when they combine with other chemicals, sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate may cause kidney and respiratory damage.
